HK villages?
History of HK urban management can be summerized in terms of "Density push" generated by political events between China and colonised HK. New towns are created to respond these push but each time gained in quality and efficiency. What is amazing is that it works while in Europe this kind of density (be it horizontal or vertical) creats huge social problems.
Is it that Chinese (I myself am one) people are more tolerant towards density than other peoples? I think the economical factor is important: I know that in some older Estates in HK where the general imcome of inhabitants are low, the same kind of violence, drugs proplem occured.
With a high level of income, with a high quality designed appartment, people seem to treature the density. Perhaps one can summerize this phenomenen by a cantonese expression "yit now'. Chinese people in general loves yit now, they feel lonely when density is absent... |
