dear Kevin Mathews good article!
To me the september 11th tragedy was truly traumatic. And the reason for such trauma is that my final year in school consisted in studiyng the link between architecture and patterns of global terrorism just five months prior to the attack.
During the summer of 2000 I got involved in a internship with the US department of state. My contribution was plans and perspectives for security improvements in the perimeter of the US Department of State. When school started I thought the proper thing to do was to take the subject further. The first three months of my thesis dissertation where focused in research, a session of three months to develop a schematic design and a final three month period to provide a formal presentation. My hypothesis (first 3 months) was that there were several components that contributed to a building being a target for global terrorism. The intermediate period (second 3 month period) was used to develop the project (A public plaza for the UN with multi-media theaters and sunken shopping court). And a final three period used to develop drawings and detailed models of the proposal. The almost incredible thing is that all this happened while at school and the professors and students where charged with all the anxiety and sensationalism going on in the media at that time.

That sounds like an amazing experience, and not an easy one.
